Links Trust Announces Changes
A week ago, the Links Trust, administrator of seven courses in St Andrews including the Old Course, announced that they were making a change to the daily ballot for play on the Old Course. It is a significant change. This from their press release:
The daily ballot for the world renowned Old Course is to change from January 2012, moving to a 48 hour ahead system of entering for the first time in its history.
For many years golfers have entered the ballot one day ahead of when they wish to play the famous Links but from Saturday, January 7, 2012 golfers will enter two days before.
The change is being made by St Andrews Links Trust, which manages the seven public courses at the Home of Golf, following an extensive consultation exercise with local golfers, local golf clubs, businesses, golf organisations, hoteliers, travel operators and tourism bodies.
We think this is a wonderful development for all golfers but guests at Monarchs House will find this to be a monumental move that will help plan their week’s golf. In the past, we have recommended to those visitors who have stayed with us to maintain a flexible schedule in order to play the Old Course. The extra day will give us more planning time to arrange alternative golfing plans if the daily ballot submission is unsuccessful.
Being in residence at Monarchs House for a week has never looked so good.
